Find ‘Solutions’ at First Baptist Church

— First Baptist Church’s “Solutions” series is held on Wednesdays at the church.

Jack Perkins, director of the alcohol and drug program at the Bill Willis Community Mental Health and Substance Center in Tahlequah, is the facilitator. Don Jones, FBC’s associate pastor, is coordinator of the series.

Wednesday’s program starts at 5:30 p.m. Dinner is available. The class ends at 7 p.m. The weekly series is free. Each program is a stand-alone presentation, according to Jones. Participants can attend each session or select individual sessions to attend. This series focuses on relationships.

Information: 682-3496.

Sessions include:

• Sept. 8 – Riding the Guilt Merry-Go-Round – Guilt traps us in an endless cycle: Mess up, feel guilty, mess, up, feel guilty-around and around we go. Some say that guilt is God’s way of keeping us in line, but it doesn’t seem to be working. Learn the difference between Godly sorrow and condemning guilt-and get off the less-than-merry-go-round.

• Sept. 15 – Slipping Into Darkness – Depression is real and does not go away easily. Others may tell us to “snap out of it” or “have more faith” – but this sort of advice won’t help. Find out what to do if you or a loved one is depressed. There are reasons, and there are remedies. Most importantly, there is hope.

• Sept. 22 – Worried Sick – We all have been worried sick about a person, a painful life situation, or the future. Worry is a part of the human condition; yet, it can also take over our lives and relationships. Let solutions help you get to the root of the problem and conquer those fears once and for all.

• Sept. 29 – Seeing Red — Anger is a normal and even healthy emotion, unless left unchecked. When angry feelings frequently escalate into fury, causing you to “see red,” it’s a warning signal. Promising not to lose your temper won’t work. Instead, learn what drives your angry feelings and find healthy ways to keep anger in the safety zone.
