City dentist to pay kids for candy

— Dr. David Jones said he is redefining the phrase “put your money where your mouth is.” Trick-or-treaters can bring their excess candy to the local dentist’s office, 510 N. York St., and receive $1 per pound.

Cash for Candy will be from 3 to 6 p.m. Thursday. The candy must be unopened. It will then be shipped to troops overseas.

This is the sixth year Jones has held the event. Last year, Jones collected 350 candy for the local chapter of the Blue Star Mothers.

He said he is leading this anti-decay movement by giving away dollars and neon toothbrushes in exchange for cavity-provoking candy, Jones said.

“Ditch the candy, that’s what we’re saying. Visiting your dentist twice a year and brushing daily are great preventative measures, but doing away with excess sweets altogether would really give your teeth a healthy boost,” Jones said.

“Kids can still have all of the fun of trick-or-treating, and now their piggy banks will benefit as well. Plus, these tooth brushes we’re giving out are really cool — they’re like light sabers for your mouth to help you fight tooth decay.”
