Home shows spirit, style of Christmas

Doug and Ronia

Davison home

Christmas is a time for family gatherings for Doug and Ronia Davison. They will open their home to the public for the Christmas Home Tour from 1 to 4 p.m. Dec. 5 and 6.

They spend Christmas Eve with Doug’s mother and then they attend candlelight service at church before returning to their home for opening gifts.

Their son, Brandon of Muskogee, and daughter Lindsey Whetstone of Yukon and their families are always on hand to join the celebration. Doug said they always read the Christmas story from the Bible on Christmas Eve.

The formal dining table is set with Lenox Christmas china that was a gift to Ronia from Doug and her parents when she was National Board Certified as a teacher. The china cabinet holds hand-painted pieces by Jennie Stout, Ronia’s grandmother.

The theme tree is decorated with musical ornaments in red and gold, and the fireplace is draped with greenery and poinsettias. A tree in the master bedroom compliments the turquoise and gold colors of the room with cone-shaped ornaments in those colors.

Ronia said the family tree is full of memories from their childhood.

There are handmade ornaments by Ronia’s mother Sharon Cornbell, a bell brought from Bethlehem by Doug’s great-grandmother, Mildred Wilson, and hand-painted ornaments by mother-in-law Sue Dawson.

Doug and Ronia look forward to visits from their two grandsons and have a special room just for them.

“This is boyville done in Americana,” Ronia said.

The large tree in this room is decorated with all things patriotic.

Doug said they built their home at 3110 North St. in 1996 and 1997. He said he always had lived within a four-mile radius of this area and Ronia has lived on every coast. Doug is a mail carrier and Ronia teaches at Sadler Arts Academy.

“We are bound by traditions but we are also making our own,” Ronia said. “Our whole family loves Christmas and we try to remember the true meaning of Christmas.”
