A Fort Gibson company helped “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition” build a barn for a family in Missouri.
The project for the Hampton family airs at 7 p.m. Sunday on ABC.
Brian Keane, president/owner of National Barn Co.-Central Division, said he was on site from start to finish July 14 to 21. The company had representatives from Oklahoma and Tennessee to participate in the construction of the barn.
“It was a tremendous experience to see people come together and help, to see people working together and not making money, but volunteering time and resources to build a beautiful home and nice barn. It was amazing to see it happen.”
The EMHE team built the new home in record time for the Hampton family in Ash Grove, Mo., according to a media release. The eight-member Hampton family have been living in a cramped one-bedroom, one-bath farmhouse.
“Extreme Makeover: Home Edition” allows approximately six days to demolish the old home and build a new one. In this case, the new home was actually built ahead of schedule, with volunteers working 24 hours a day.
Builders Sam and Michelle Clifton of Millstone Homes led the project, which was completed in Springfield, Mo.
The project was completed through the donations and volunteer work of thousands in the community and from throughout the region. In total, more than 400 companies donated materials and/or labor to the project, and thousands more showed up to volunteer their time or to cheer on those who worked around the clock.
“A lot of people had a hand in it,” Keane said.
According to the media release, one of the largest donors to the project was National Barn Co. of Fort Gibson. National Barn built a horse barn for the Hampton family as a part of the project. National Barn Co. began construction on July 14 and built a 36x48x12 horse barn with two 6x48-foot porches, six 12x12-foot horse stalls, 12x12-foot tack room, 12x12-foot feed room, six Dutch doors, one 12x11 split sliding door with crossbucks.
“They loved the barn more than the house.” Keane said.
The Cliftons will host a watch party in Springfield at Remington’s Entertainment Complex, 1655 W. Republic Road. The watch party starts at 5:30 p.m. with doors opening at 5 p.m. A special “Behind the Scenes” video will be shown before the “Extreme Makeover” show and food will be available.
This thank you event is free and open to anyone who contributed to or volunteered at the Hamptons’ Extreme home.
