Library has cookbooks to offer summer meal solutions

— With the hot days and busy schedules that most people find themselves involved in standing over a hot stove is not very appealing. But you want to have good healthy meals for yourself and your family.

At the Muskogee Public Library you will find a wide selection of cookbooks for whatever type of meal or diet you are looking to enjoy. For meals on the go or when your family can’t all eat at the same time there are several delicious sandwiches and wraps.

“400 Best Sandwich Recipes” by Alison Lewis is a good selection from the classic burger to wraps. It includes recipes for using beef, poultry, fish, and vegetables with a variety of bread types.

Dwayne Ridgaway’s book “Sandwiches, Panini and Wraps” tells how to make portable, easy-to-make sandwiches for those on the go. It also includes recipes for making various types of breads and which ones are best with the various sandwiches.

For those of you who still like to have a hot meal you can sit down and enjoy, but don’t want the hassle of having to cook after a hard day of work, the slow cooker or one-pot meals are ideal for you.

“One-Pot Meals” by Time Life has some great tasting low-fat meals you make in one pot, saving you time on cleanup. These delicious meals can be made in a skillet, casserole dish or a large pot.

With “The Complete Crockpot Cookbook” by Wendy Louise you can prepare a meal in the morning and have a delicious, hot meal waiting for you at the end of the day. She also includes a section on how to convert your favorite family recipes into fantastic tasting slow-cooking recipes. Also included is how to slow-cook entrees, side dishes, and desserts.

“Mable Hoffman’s Crockery Cookery” has tips on using and caring for a slow cooker. She has recipes on appetizers, soups, poultry, beans, vegetables, breads, cakes, and much more.

Whether you want something fast and quick or a gourmet meal, you can find recipes for all types of dishes from around the world at the Muskogee Public Library. Visit us soon and take a culinary test drive through our collection of cookbooks.
