Don’t tell Cookie Monster about the giant cookie cake at Arrowhead Mall — unless he wants to donate $300 to a worthy cause.
The giant cookie cake will be laid out in the mall’s food court this afternoon to help raise funds for Muskogee’s Kelly B. Todd Cerebral Palsy & Neuromuscular Center. Great American Cookie Co. is conducting the benefit as part of its 35th anniversary.
“It will be about 3 feet by 6 feet, so we can put it on a big table, ” said Laurie Gotcher, the store’s manager. “You know, the table used for yard sales. Then we decorate the cookie.”
The cookie will be divided into 300 pieces, to be given out for a donation of $1 per piece, she said.
“That’s not a ton of money, but we hope to make $300,” she said.
Kelly B. Todd Director Pat Pack said the fundraiser is welcome, “especially with the tightening of finances.”
“This is a resource that will help us meet day-to-day expenses,” Pack said. “We still have hopes of getting another physical therapist.”
Gotcher said the cookie features 20 pounds of dough and will take four hours to bake.
“We get our batter already made for us, thank goodness,” she said.
Chocolate and vanilla frosting packets will be available for those who want to decorate their pieces, she said.
Gotcher said the cookie baker is helping the Kelly B. Todd Center because it is a local program.
“And I worked with them before,” she added. “They just help parents and children deal with their physical handicaps.”
Pack, a physical therapist, said the center helps “children of all ages and varieties of diagnoses, challenges and types of disabilities.”
Gotcher, who has been with the store for 13 years, said the fundraiser “is our way of thanking the public and customers for keeping us in business.”
