Francie Wright of Muskogee hosted a bridge club reunion serving brunch on Saturday.
Attending were the three living original bridge club members — Shirley Rogers, Eileen Bishop and Bonnie Baker — from the group that started in the early 1950s. About 30 daughters, daughters-in-law, and granddaughters attended.
Wright’s invitation read: “Once upon a time, four young mothers started a bridge club. They invited two neighbors, and then added two more friends. Through the years, some members were lost, and new members were found. You have received this invitation because you are a daughter, daughter-in-law, granddaughter, or even a great-granddaughter of one of those delightful ladies. We hope that you will join us in celebrating these friendships, and hear their stories once again!”
The original bridge club members were LaVoyce Love, Eileen Bishop, Charlotte White Tackett, Shirley Rogers, Bernice Edwards, Millie Ross Tackett, Octavia Lambert and Bonnie Baker.
The women agreed the best part about bridge club was it was a night out away from the husbands and kids, said Wright, daughter of the late Millie Ross Tackett.
“The eight original members had lifelong friendships and the tradition carries on,” Wright said. “We had a really good time today talking about these moms and our childhoods.”
