Book clubs have been part of book lovers’ lives for many years. Whether you’re reading outside of your comfort zone or just want to talk about what you like to read, book clubs give you an opportunity to come together with family and friends to share your passion for reading. At Muskogee Public Library we offer a couple of options for those of you who are looking for something different.
The Third Thursday Book Club has entered its third season, and every year seems to top the last. With interesting discussions, a wide range of reading subjects, and special guest authors, the fun just doesn’t seem to end. Kicking off the season in August, Donna Welch Jones joined the group to discuss her fun, page-turning thriller, Killing the Secret. While discussing her book, Ms. Jones also spoke of the late start to her writing career and her involvement in Tulsa Night Writers. Author Gary Babb will return in October to discuss the club’s fantasy/science fiction selection, Target Earth, the epic sequel to Earth is Ours. Other books being discussed this season include The Stupidest Angel by Christopher Moore, The Blind Side by Michael Lewis, Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury and many more. The club meets the third Thursday of every month from August through May.
Back by popular demand, the “Based on the Book Club” will return next year beginning Jan. 19, 2013. Throughout the year, the club will read and discuss books as well as watch a free movie. Books that will be discussed include The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins, Walking Across Egypt by Clyde Edgerton, Sphere by Michael Crichton and more. For movie titles, you can call the library at (918) 682-6657 or guess with this hint: they’re based on the book.
Many more book club ideas are being discussed at the moment including themed clubs such as fantasy/science fiction, mystery, etc. For complete book lists and schedules for both the “Third Thursday Book Club” and the “Based on the Book Club” or to make a comment or suggestion in regards to future book clubs, call the library at (918) 682-6657 or visit us at 801 W. Okmulgee. Thanks for your continued support of Muskogee Public Library, where we maximize people’s lives.
