CHECOTAH — The Checotah Chamber of Commerce is celebrating the 43rd Annual Old Settlers’ Day on Saturday.
Great Plains Amusements opened the carnival Thursday. There is a rodeo at the Checotah Roundup Club Arena today and Saturday. On Saturday, there will be a pancake breakfast at 6 a.m. to start the day with arts and crafts and food booths lining the downtown streets.
There are two additions to the festivities this year: The Rust to Riches Car Show is going to be awarding 10 trophies to the circle of winners as well as Mayors’ Choice, Chambers’ Choice, and Best of Show. There is also a Youth Sing Fest, which will allow young people to hone their skills on-stage in front of a live audience. Any interested participant should contact the chamber office, 473-2070.
There are games, contests, turtle race and tobacco spitting scheduled throughout the day with a parade at 4 p.m. At 9 p.m. The Sand Creek Band will perform live at the Street Dance, which runs until midnight.
