Laura Barnard of Muskogee is celebrating her 100th birthday among family and friends at 6:30 p.m. today at her home, Country Gardens.
Barnard, the oldest of seven siblings, is a retired elementary school teacher who graduated high school in Allen in 1924 when she was 16.
She moved to Muskogee in 1930 and taught at Braggs Schools and area one-room schoolhouses, said Jean Gile, one of her younger sisters.
“She was always generous with us when we were younger,” Giles said. “She always managed to get something for us out of her earnings.”
