Students winners in Latin competition

Seven Muskogee High School students have placed on the National Latin Exam, Level I. Earning a silver medal for maxima cum laude was James Chang. Magna cum Laude honors went to Senjin Bryant, Amanda Rember, and Huong Truong. Cum Laude awards went to Carla Anthis, Janny Gandhi, Heather Maxey, and Dylan Thornburg.

Latin students also recently attended the Oklahoma Junior Classical League Convention at Tulsa Edison High School where they competed in academic, Olympic, and creative arts events.

Winners were:

Level III — Kristen Anthis, third in Sweepstakes Art, first in maps, third in miscellaneous art, 10th in mythology; Nick Anderson, sixth in vocabulary; Kylor Brice, sixth in Olympics Sweepstakes, fourth in 100 meter dash, fourth in discus, fourth in shot put; Nhan Le, sixth in Sweepstakes Art, second in scrapbooks, fifth in vocabulary; Nathan Oney, fourth in vocabulary, first in costume; Olivia Risch, fifth in Olympic Sweepstakes, ninth in vocabulary; Deidre Sanders, seventh in vocabulary; Alyssa Wardwell, fourth in vocabulary, sixth in reading comprehension, first costume.

Level II — Kyle Baker, second in Olympic Sweepstakes, first is shot put, first in discus; Robert Hix, second in Olympic Sweepstakes, third in chariot race; Hilary Richardson, fourth in grammar; Cole Teehee, fifth in Olympic Sweepstakes, second is shot put, third in discus; Danniele White, 10th in Olympic Sweepstakes, third in 100 meter dash.

Level I — Carla Anthis, sixth in Sweepstakes Art, eighth in mythology, 10th in Roman history, second in pencil; Janny Gandhi, ninth in Academic Sweepstakes, ninth in vocabulary, fifth in mythology, fourth in Roman history, second in reading comprehension; Kelsey Humphrey, first in Art Sweepstakes, fourth in Academic Sweepstakes, seventh in vocabulary, fifth in mythology, third in Roman history, first in miscellaneous art, first in sculpture, first in pottery; Nguyen Le, 10th in mythology, fifth in Roman history, second in mosaics; Heather Maxey, second in Academic Sweepstakes, fifth in reading comprehension, seventh in Roman history, eighth in vocabulary, eighth in mythology.

National Latin Honor Society inductees for the year are Nick Anderson, Kirsten Baker, Vann Beard, Alex Coburn, Myriah Conard, Catherine Diep, Janny Gandhi, William Greuel, Hope Hoog, Kelsey Humphrey, Malesa Knapper, Nguyen Le, Nhan Le, Heather Maxey, Mychael McWhorter, Lake Moore, Amanda Rember, Kalli Simmerman, Cecelia Simon, Lizzie Smith, Madelyn Smith, Dylan Thornburg, Hoang Truong, Son Truong, Britani Vann, Andrew Webb, Alex Woodard.

Junior Classical League, National Latin Honor Society, and National Latin Exam are sponsored by the American Classical League.
