High school seniors from across Oklahoma will compete for a share of college scholarships at the Oklahoma’s Junior Miss Scholarship Program at 7 p.m. today at Bartlesville Community Center.
Eight teens will be competing for the title and the opportunity to represent Oklahoma at the 51st AJM National Finals in Mobile, Ala., on June 26, 27 and 28. The young woman selected also will win a cash scholarship and college granted scholarships to colleges and universities across the country.
Contestants from this area are:
• Lacy Michell Brown, Vian Junior Miss, daughter of Geary and Linda Brown. She attends Vian High School and is active in cheerleading, basketball and track. Brown is a member of the Spanish Club, Math Club and National Honor Society. She volunteers for Relay for Life, Toys for Tots and VBS music director. She will be performing a vocal to “Take Back Your Mink” from the musical “Guys and Dolls.”
• Kaileigh Nicole Bullard, at large, Wagoner, daughter of Mark and DeAnna Bullard, attends Wagoner High School and is active as a Senior Club Officer, Mu Alpha Theta reporter and Business Professionals of America vice president. Bullard is a member of homecoming and prom committees, Teens for Christ and violinist in adult orchestra at her church. Her volunteer work includes assisting with American Red Cross blood drives, organizing local Veterans Day assembly and has performed benefits for different local organizations. Bullard’s talent is a vocal/clog dance/fiddle to “This Country’s Rockin’/Orange Blossom Special.”
Each contestant’s scores in the various categories are weighted according to the following percentages: scholastics, 20 percent; interview, 25 percent; talent, 25 percent; fitness, 15 percent, and self-expression, 15 percent.
Tickets are $14, adults, and $9, students, and available at the door.
The 2007-08 national sponsors for AJM are the City of Mobile, Mobile County, and the Mitchell Co. Category sponsors are Alabama Power, Encore Rehabilitation, Mobile Gas, Regions Bank, and Wintzell’s Oyster House.
