Azalea Parade set for April 12

The 42nd Annual Muskogee Azalea Festival Parade will begin at 11 a.m. April 12 in downtown Muskogee.

The Azalea Festival Parade will feature marching bands, floats, celebrities, dignitaries, drill teams, and much more. Theme for this year’s parade is “Birds, Blooms and Butterflies”.

This is the 42nd annual Muskogee Azalea Festival Parade, and this year’s honorary grand marshal is outgoing Muskogee Mayor Wren Stratton.

Floats in the parade will be judged in two categories — commercial and noncommercial. Trophies will be awarded for “Best Overall” in each category as well as “Best Overall” combined. In addition, trophies will be awarded for “Best Conforming to Theme,” “Best use of Kids.” Marching bands may enter in two divisions, over-50 members and 50 members and under. There also will be an award for “Best Dance/Drill Team.”

Float and marching band judging will occur at the announcing stand on the parade route at Third Street and Broadway.

For a parade application or more information, call Joel Everett at the Muskogee Parks and Recreation Department, 684-6302, Ext. 28 or go to www.muskogeeparks.com under “Special Events” for detailed parade information and a printable application.

Entry in the parade is free.
