Green Country Duplicate Bridge

Green Country Duplicate bridge meets at 12:30 p.m. each Monday, Wednesday and Friday at the Kiwanis Senior Citizens Center, 119 Spaulding Blvd. Newcomers are welcome. If you are interested in playing or learning to play duplicate bridge, call Ann Kent at (918) 682-3098, Mary Smith at (918) 682-2605, or Sandy Cole at (918) 684-9002.

• Aug. 22 — Mary Beyers and Becky Powers, first; and Janice Chance and Helen Richmond tied with Sandra Cole and Santa McWilliams for second.

• Aug. 24 — Norma Kolmer and Dave Murdock, first; Betty Jordan and Jane Lopes, second; and Joan Chapman and Carol Ketchum tied with Fran Martin and Ralph Parker for third in a club championship game

• Aug. 27 — Joan Chapman and Carol Ketchum, first; and Ann Kent and Jane Lopes, second, in a club championship game.



Tahlequah Aglow

Tahlequah Aglow will meet at 6:45 p.m. Sept. 10 in the dining room of Go Ye Village, 1201 W. 4th St., Tahlequah. A dinner starts at 6 p.m. and costs $6.50.

The topic will be “Trampled Dreams.” Florence Altidor, who was born in Haiti, but has lived in the U.S. will speak. She is a Rhema Bible College graduate (2003), a prayer leader, an entrepreneur and a business owner. Married to George Altidor, this mother of four will pull no punches as she lays out God’s plan for your life, unfolding it like a beautiful fabric, according to a media release.

Books Sandwiched In

The Friends of the Jim Lucas Checotah Public Library will host their first Books Sandwiched In of the season at 11:30 a.m. Sept. 12.

Retired educator Shirley Davis will review Dan Rather’s autobiography, “I Remember.” Rather’s reflective book retraces the many paths of his life. Reared by a hard-working father and thrifty mother, Rather was prepared for his eventual success as one of America’s leading news figures.

Lunch costs $3.



Delta Sigma Theta Sorority

The Muskogee Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., will hold a voter registration drive from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sept. 29 at Arrowhead Mall.

The club also is co-hosting, with Women of Worth ministries, a cancer awareness seminar Oct. 20.

Toastmasters International

World Class Speakers will meet at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at Three Rivers Museum, 220 Elgin St.  for the club’s regular meeting.  In addition to meetings, Toastmaster members have opportunities to hone their skills in competition.

Mary Ankrom will represent the World Class Speakers with a humorous speech at the area Humorous Speech and Evaluation Contest. The contest will be held on Sept. 15 at the Church of Madalene in Tulsa. Paulette Lorsbach, World Class Speakers Secretary/Treasurer, will act as Toastmaster for the event

Club members attending the contest will also have the opportunity to participate in the Evaluation Contest. The participants evaluate a “test” speaker, formulate a critique and give their evaluation to the audience. The audience then judges their evaluation skills.

Church of the Madalene is located near 21st and Harvard at 3188 East 22nd Street South. Registration starts at 8:30 a.m. and the contest begins at 9 a.m. The cost for attendance is $3. There is no charge for speakers participating in the contest.



Wagoner High School Fifties

The Wagoner High School Fifties Dinner will be at 6 p.m. Sept. 15 at Baker's Catfish Restaurant. All classes are invited.

Books At Noon

Books At Noon will meet at 11:30 a.m. Sept. 18 at the First Presbyterian Church, 205 N. Main St. Wagoner.

Lunch will be sponsored by the Wagoner Library Friends. Cost is $3.
