Oklahoma Music Hall of Fame Songwriting Contest will be at 6 p.m. Saturday at OMHF, 401 S. Third St.
The free concert will include performances by finalists in the 2010 Muskogee songwriting contest, which includes contestants selected from 49 entries from across Oklahoma. It is open to everyone.
Special performances will be by Slapout of Stillwater, a folk/rock/alternative country band; and Signs of Warning of Muskogee, John Michaels Music Rock Camp veterans who are between the ages of 10 and 13.
The finalists in the contest are:
• Brett Vanderzee of Edmond.
• Corri Cousins of Tulsa.
• James Kemp of Owasso.
• Jerry Emanuel of Claremore.
• J.A. Dunegan of Locust Grove.
• Roger Jaegar of Tulsa.
• Ralph Bollinger of Broken Arrow.
• Dave Dowler of Broken Arrow.
• Ted Aukerman of Muskogee.
• David Ercanbrack of McAlester.
• Donna Hendricks of Tulsa.
• Mike Dinsmore of Tulsa.
Winners will receive $500, first; $200, second; and $100, third. There will be one prize of $500 for the best song with an Oklahoma theme.
Judges are:
• Jennifer P. Chancellor, music beat reporter for The Tulsa World.
“I am a music geek, writer, graphic designer and amateur photographer and videographer who’s followed the Tulsa and regional music scene since I moved to Green Country more than 10 years ago.”
• John Peter Jeffries, executive director of Tulsa Opera, has worked at opera companies, both large and small for more than 30 years, throughout North America, including Florida Grand Opera, the Canadian Opera Co. in Toronto, Portland Opera and Opera Idaho. Jeffries graduated from the University of Michigan in 1975 with an honors degree from the department of speech, communication and theater.
• Alby Good of Wagoner, singer, songwriter and performer, recorded a pop/rock CD and found notoriety with “Stop the World,” No. 14 on college radio. His “I Need You” went to No. 1 on SongVault’s independent artists, listener-voted website.
