January in downtown Muskogee offers variety of music

— Four different styles of music will be offered on three different stages in downtown Muskogee during the month of January.

The musical smorgasbord will start Jan. 13 with a blues concert by area artist Bronko Carr, who will offer a tribute to Howlin’ Wolf, the legendary blues singer and guitarist. Carr will play at 7 p.m. at the Roxy Theater. Tickets are $10 per person and available through the Muskogee Civic Center.

The blues concert is a part of the Martin Luther King Day celebration in Muskogee that includes the National Soul Food Cook Off to be held at the Civic Center from 1 to 5 p.m. Jan. 14 On Jan. 15, the historic Roxy Theater will host the gospel group Sonday starting at 6 p.m. Tickets are $5 per person.

 Music lovers can Experience Tulsa Opera Live at 7 p.m. Jan. 16 at the Oklahoma Music Hall of Fame. The show will feature opera and musical theatre standards as well as excerpts from Tulsa Opera’s next two productions. Proceeds from the $10 ticket sales will help fund a new children’s music exhibit at the Hall of Fame. The Oklahoma Music Hall of Fame is located at 401 S. Third Street in the Historic Depot District.

Vintage Wildflowers will perform Celtic music at the Coffee House Evening at Three Rivers Museum at 7 p.m. Jan. 21. The museum, also located in the Historic Depot District, will offer food along with the music in the main exhibit hall. Vintage Wildflowers, a female vocal group and band, entertain with flute, mandolin, guitar, banjo and close vocal harmonies offering a unique musical style rarely enjoyed in Muskogee.
