Connors State College and Northeastern State University announced this week it will host Let’s Talk About It, Oklahoma! The event is made possible by a grant from the Oklahoma Humanities Council.
The program will be held from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. on the second Thursday of each month from July through November. Different scholars will talk about each book and their authors and how they relate to the theme, which is “Mysterious Fears and Ghastly Longings.”
After the scholar is done, there will be a short break and then attendees will divide into small groups and discuss the book. The event is open to the public.
Books such as “Salem’s Lot” by Stephen King, “Dracula” by Bram Stoker, “Northanger Abbey” by Jane Austen, “Mistress of Mellyn” by Victoria Holt will be reviewed.
“We are thrilled to have our first Let’s Talk About It, Oklahoma program and to do so with our NSU library partners,” Connors State Library Director Margaret Rigney said. in a media release. “We look forward to a fun book discussion series of Chills and Thrills at Connors/NSU. The program is free and open to public. We look forward to meeting and discussing classic thrillers and gothic romance books with people from our shared Muskogee community.”
The first session will be at 6:30 p.m. July 12 with discussion of the book “Dr. Jekyll & Mr. Hyde” by Robert Louis Stevenson. The scholar for the evening will be Dr. Sara Jane Richter, dean of the School of Liberal Arts and Professor of English of Oklahoma Panhandle State University.
