Local dentist receives honor

— A local dental practitioner, Dr. Brad Hoopes, was inducted as a Fellow of the International College of Dentists at its 83rd annual Convocation in San Francisco recently.

An honorary organization for the recognition of outstanding and meritorious service to the profession and community, the college presented Hoopes with a membership plaque, a gold lapel pin and a gold key symbolic of this fellowship for conspicuous service rendered the art and science of dentistry.

More than 250 dentists from the United States were inducted into the college at this year’s ceremony, according to a media release. The college, with representative chapters in more than 80 countries, has more than 11,000 members, including about 6,500 in the United States.

A graduate of both Muskogee High School and the University of Oklahoma, Hoopes has held many positions and honors in the dental community during his 30 years of dental practice. A member of the Oklahoma Dental Association and the American Dental Association for 30 years, Hoopes has served on the Board of Directors for Delta Dental of Oklahoma and on the Board of Trustees for the Oklahoma Dental Foundation.

Hoopes has participated as a volunteer for Mission of Mercy in 2009, 2010 and 2011.

As an examiner since 1992, Hoopes has also served as president of the Western Regional Exam Board. Hoopes has also served on the Oklahoma Board of Dentistry from 1992-1998, and 2008-2013 as a member and has been president of the Oklahoma Board of Dentistry since 2011. He believes that both of the groups “serve to protect the public and to protect the dental profession.”

In 2008, Hoopes was inducted as a Fellow in the American College of Dentists. He continues to practice in Muskogee, and was recently joined by his son, Dr. Mitchell Hoopes.
