Hilldale’s first graduates establish alumni group

— As the first graduating class, the Hilldale High School Class of 1982 wanted to do more than celebrate a 30-year reunion. The class wanted to leave a lasting memory, something to help HHS for years to come.

In that vein, the Class of 1982 has established a non-profit group, Hilldale High School Alumni Association. All Hilldale alumni are invited to celebrate the creation of this group, and to reunite and cheer on the Hornets of 2012 at homecoming Friday.

The alumni group plans a tailgating party at 6 p.m. before the Hilldale football team takes on the Beggs Demons at 7:30 p.m. A burger or bratwurst, along with a drink and chips, will be sold for $5 in the cafeteria while supplies last. Funds from sales will go into the new 501c3 alumni group.

“We plan to have a great time, just getting reacquainted and visiting with old friends,” said Samuel Stiles, a 1982 graduate.

Stiles took the lead in establishing the Hilldale High School Alumni Association.

“The purpose of this group really is to promote Hilldale and to encourage fellowship of alumni, former students and faculty of the district,” Stiles said. “We also want to encourage fund-raising activities and other projects that serve the best interests of the school and its students.”

Although the class of 1982 established the alumni group, it is Stiles’ hope that members of other classes quickly become involved. Cost of membership is minimal at $10 per year or $100 for a lifetime.

“Being the first graduating class, the Class of ’82 felt it was time to set up a formal organization to raise funds for scholarships, field trips, and fun events for students and alumni,” Stiles said.

The tailgating party is the first night of a two-night celebration for the Class of 1982. Graduates will gather again on Sept. 15 to reminisce and honor eight members of the class who have passed on.
