NARFE

The Muskogee chapter of the National Association of Retired and Current Federal Employees will meet at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at Kiwanis Senior Citizens Center, 119 Spaulding Blvd. Guest speaker will be State Rep. George Faught, R-Muskogee.

A door prize will be drawn. All federal employees, members and guests are invited.

Kids’ Space

The Kids’ Space Board of Directors will hold its monthly meeting at 12:30 p.m. Tuesday at Harmony House.



Keystone Study Club

Keystone Study Club will meet at 1 p.m. Monday at McEntees. Martha Stoodley will be the book reviewer. Current events will be given by Haralson, Haugland and Kent.



McIntosh County Oklahoma Retired Educators Association

The first fall meeting for the McIntosh County Chapter of Oklahoma Retired Educators Association (OREA) is scheduled for 2 p.m. Friday at the Jim Lucas Library, 626 W. Gentry, Checotah. This is the only professional organization in the state whose sole purpose is the welfare of retired support personnel, teachers, administrators, college professors, and all other persons who have been part of the education system, according to a media release. It is not necessary to live in McIntosh County to attend. OREA Executive Director Norman Cooper will be the keynote speaker. He will cover legislative items, as well as informing the group about benefits available to retired personnel. Refreshments will be served.

The Oct. 12 meeting will be the annual legislative meeting where those on the November ballot are invited to attend.

Muskogee Area Quilters Guild

The September meeting of the Muskogee Area Quilters Guild will be at 6:30 p.m. Thursday in Nash Hall of First Presbyterian Church, 5th and Broadway streets. The program will be Toby Lischko presenting her lecture on “How the Curved Block Has Influenced My Quilting.” It is a short history of her national prize winning quilts. She will also have a power point presentation on curved blocks and how they got their names.

The learning opportunity is starting again and will be at 5:30 p.m. The project will be how to do the “roll it up” pillowcase with no raw edges. All who are interested in quilting are invited.

Three Rivers Photography Club

Local photographer Marie Gassaway is helping Muskogee take part in the fifth annual “Worldwide Photo Walk” by organizing a local walk at 7:30 a.m. Oct. 13 at 315 Court St.

It is the largest global social event for photographers, according to a media release.

 Added to this year’s event is a special G+ page for the Photo Walk. The Google+ platform will help people connect across the globe, share images, and possibly host a hang out or two sharing some of their Photo Walk experiences.

The Photo Walk is free and open to anyone who owns a camera — even disposable cameras.

Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.

Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. met in the home of Dr. Virginia Schoats on Saturday. The fashion show scheduled for September has been moved to October. A cluster meeting will be held in Lawton on Sept. 20



Green Country Duplicate Bridge

Green Country Duplicate bridge meets at 12:30 p.m. each Monday, Wednesday and Friday at the Kiwanis Senior Citizens Center, 119 Spaulding Blvd. Newcomers are welcome. Muskogee Art Guild

The Muskogee Art Guild will host a reception for Cotti, internationally known artist, from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. Saturday at its studio, 315 Court St.

Formally trained at Chouinard Art Institute, Cotti was also a dancer, choreographer, costume and set designer. Because of this training, Cotti’s paintings capture the essence of human nature, according to a media release.



Muskogee County Historical Society

The Muskogee County Historical Society will hold its monthly meeting at 11:30 a.m., Thursday at the Amish Country Store Restaurant, 2410 N. 32nd. David Gerard, author and former Muskogee Phoenix columnist, will present the program.
