Have you eaten any good books lately? If you love to cook and read, now is the time when you can get creative with both. Muskogee Public Library is having its first annual Book Eats program Thursday. Anyone who wishes to participate can sign up for Best Book, Best Pun, or both. Every entry is also entered into a People’s Choice category, offering up to three chances to win.
“I am really looking forward to seeing what people can do with a little imagination and a good book,” Jeremy Jones said in a media release. “Some of the examples I saw were great but I think that we can do better at MPL.”
Entries must be at least 51 percent edible and related to a book in some way. If you have a recipe inspired by your favorite book – maybe Huck Finn’s Flapjack Logs floating down the Missis-Syrupy River or The Joy Luck Club Sandwich – sign up and bring it in. Gain some bragging rights and show Muskogee that you can make a book an edible delight.
Entries can be baked, salads, soups, sandwiches, or a whole meal. So whether you have Sookie cookies, The Sun Also Rises on your salad, or your soup is from 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea, you might just be the foodie who gets to walk away a winner.
If you need ideas, check out http://bookeats.wordpress.com/ for a list of recipes taken from or inspired by books. For more information on the contest, pick up the entry forms at Muskogee Public Library.
