Rougher 300 program in town’s interest

Becoming a more responsible member of society always is laudable.

To instill this trait in our youth also is an investment in the entire community’s growth.

We are very pleased by the Muskogee Public Schools new program designed to encourage students to perform community service.

Rougher 300 will ask incoming freshmen to complete 300 hours of service before graduation.

Students who complete the program will receive no compensation in terms of money or class credit.

They will receive recognition at commencement ceremonies.

Students completing the program also will receive untold benefits.

Helping your community instills a sense of place and purpose that will carry over into everyday life. We would all be better off raising our youth to respond to their town’s needs.

The program could raise better citizens and might keep some of those citizens after seeing first-hand how their hard work pays off.

Now, it’s your turn.

Charities, volunteer projects, and faith-based organizations must provide the documentable service opportunities for these students to complete.

It is in you and your town’s best interest.
