Muskogee citizens are recycling more, according to the city’s recycling center. With a new recycling plant planned only 40 miles away, citizens should plan to do more.
Francie Martin, the city’s recycling director, told the Phoenix last week, that recyclable materials, especially plastic, being brought to the center at Main and Iola streets, have increased steadily.
We all should be better caretakers of our environment, and given the increased demands for energy all the time, it only makes sense to recycle. Of course, recycling not only needs to make sense but also be profitable, creating a demand for the return of more materials. Demand should increase a couple of years from now when a recycling plant in Okmulgee expects to open.
Waste Not Technologies of Destin, Fla., announced this month, the building of an 800,000 square-foot plant that will sort waste and convert it into usable materials and products. The plant is a very welcome addition to the area’s economy.
