Boynton-Moton girls deserve school’s thanks

Sports sections and movie theaters are full of stories about a team overcoming great odds to climb championship heights.

It is hard to imagine an area high school team overcoming greater odds than the Boynton-Moton girls basketball team did in winning the Class B championship recently.

To say this is the girls’ first title in the school’s history is an understatement.

It might be the last.

The Boynton-Moton Board of Education is working to keep the school open, at least until June.

The Lady Cardinals competed all season carrying the hopes of a school and the weight of a worrisome future.

Boynton-Moton coach Shartese Henry and her team should take a long and deserved bow.

They made their school and community proud in a time when spirits needed a boost.
