Coburn’s right to be accountable

Sen. Tom Coburn told constituents at a recent town hall meeting in Wagoner to hold him accountable.

We agree with Coburn.

His constituents should hold him accountable.

They should watch his every vote and make sure he is representing their interests with conviction and consistency.

Coburn is a believer in limited government. He discussed stronger borders, defense, and Social Security. He should be consistent in his voting regarding those issues.

It is admirable to hear him ask for accountability.

Unfortunately, Coburn is one of the few politicians willing to stand up and ask to be held accountable.

This should be understood as part of the job — elected officials should be held accountable.

But, very few will have the courage to stand up and say this to their employers — the voters.

It is refreshing to hear Coburn pledge responsibility and accountability.

However, until many more in his shoes agree and act accordingly, we will not get very far in our attempts to grow as a nation.
