Muskogee lost a nice man with the untimely death of Hilldale High School football head coach Don Hendrix.
Phoenix reporters who worked with Hendrix always had high praise for Hendrix’s willingness to accommodate them and others interested in the program.
Hendrix deserves praise most, of course, for his dedicated work with young men with a desire to play football. Hendrix was a patient coach, and those who worked with him said they never heard a curse word from Hendrix or heard him say anything derogatory about one of his players.
We express our sympathies to Hendrix’s family, his players and high school. Hendrix spent eight years at Hilldale and he earned the respect of many in Muskogee.
