David Gambrell and Mary Shasta (Coodey) Morris of Muskogee will celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary by renewing their wedding vows followed by a reception given in their honor on Sunday, Oct. 4, 2009, at the Seventh Day Adventist Church in Muskogee.
They were married Oct. 5, 1949, in Van Buren, Ark. He grew up in Vian and graduated in 1947 from Vian High School. He graduated as valedictorian of the class of 1949 at Bacone College. He served in the 45th Division of the National Guard in Korea during the Korean War. He graduated from Northeastern State University in 1953 where he earned a bachelor of science in education/mathmatics with a minor in physics. He graduated from Highlands University in Las Vegas, N.M., in 1964 with a master’s of science in mathematics. David spent 40 years teaching in schools in Oklahoma, Nebraska, Texas, Louisiana and Idaho.
Mary grew up in Muskogee and graduated from Central High School in 1950. She has had various jobs from working as a nurses aide in local hospitals where they were residing at the time, to being a librarian where they were. She also worked as a teachers aide.
The couple have five children, Jean Morris of Sperry, David Morris of Dallas, Kathy Weigand of Pleasant Hill, Mo., Patty Schwach of Tulsa, Debbie Childress of Owasso; 10 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
