The Harpers celebrate their 50th anniversary

At a dinner reception hosted by their children and grandchildren, Leon and Etta Mae Harper of Keys celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary Saturday, May 9, 2009. The event was held at Tahlequah First Assembly of God and was attended by more than 150 family members and friends of the couple.

Leon Harper and Etta Mae Railey were married on Saturday, May 9, 1959, at the First Pentecostal Holiness Church in Fort Gibson by the Rev. Jack Linzey. The couple’s first home was in Wurzburg, Germany, where he was stationed with the U.S. Army. Upon completion of his service to his country, the couple moved to Tahlequah, where he was employed with Dotson-Roberts Lumber Co.

In 1962 the couple moved to Tulsa, and resided there until 1982 when they relocated to Keys. Harper served in the U.S. Army from 1958-1965. He is a retired brick mason.

Leon and Etta Mae have five children, Pamela J. Lollis, Michelle Collins and husband Joe, Paula L. Hood and husband Roy, Michael L. Harper, and LaDonna F. Robertson and husband Bobby. They have four grandchildren, Shelly McCartney, Pvt. Bobby G. Robertson III (Trae), Shelby Hood and Bailye Robertson; two step-grandchildren, Chelsey Collins and Ryleah Collins; four great-grandchildren, Ashley McCartney, Alyson Hart, Andrew McCartney and Adrian Edwards.
