Farm Service Agency program signup set

Enrollment for the 2012 Direct and Counter-Cyclical Payment Program (DCP) and optional Average Crop Revenue Election (ACRE) will begin Jan. 23, and will continue through June 1, said Brian Hisey, county executive director for the Muskogee County FSA Office.

As a requirement of the 2008 Farm Bill, advance direct payments are not authorized for the 2012 program year. Officials expect a software update in early November to begin accepting acreage certification.

The optional ACRE Program election provides a safety net based on state revenue losses and acts in place of the price-based safety net of counter-cyclical payments under DCP. A farm's payment is based on a revenue guarantee calculated using a five-year average state yield and the most recent two-year national price for each eligible commodity. For the 2012 crop, the 2-year price average will be based on the 2010 and 2011 crop years.

Agricultural producers can also visit any USDA Service Center or their administratively assigned center to complete their 2012 DCP contract(s).
